You log into your server and receive a normal ping/latency reading between 30 and 110, then randomly for no apparent reason it jumpst to over 10,000 latency for 10-30 seconds. This is most noticeable in battles as the mobs will of a sudden stop responding and then you wind up dead. Or in some cases during the 10,000 ping you are completely dropped from the game. When you try to log back in it will tell you that your client is the wrong version type. Shutting off Age Of Conan and Re-Opening the program fixes the log in issue however the 10k ping will come back and you will have to repeat. During what would be considered 'peak' hours the game is completely unplayable for some people as your will get th 10k ping/latency continually.

I've been having these exact problems, except once I hit 10K it doesn't go back down, I just get booted from the game. Sometimes its so bad that as soon as I login to the game, I'm booted before the zone loads. Other times a minute or two after. Most of the time I can get about 30 minutes of time in before I get dropped, but during peak hours it's unbearable. Because it's been happening lately, I just assumed it was my ISP. We just upgraded to the second highest package you can buy for internet and the problem isn't solved.

Another side-effect I've been having is that I lose connection to the community server just as frequently. Because of that, I haven't been able to group with other players.

1. Where you are located = London, Ontario
2. ISP you are using = Rogers
3. Server you're on = Cimmeria
4. What you were doing at the time of the spike = loading, fighting, transferring zones. Just about any-time.
5. Estimate of the time it happened at = anytime, just tried to login around 6:15pm Eastern and again at 6:30pm and couldn't get past the loading screen before I was dropped.
6. How long does it last = Persistantly, started about two days ago and hasn't stopped yet.
7. Specs of your Computer:

Intel Core 2 Duo, E6750 2.6ghz (4.2ghz with OC)
2gb Corsair 800Mhz RAM
Nvidia 8600 GT XXX 256mb PCI-E graphics card
Nvidia 680i LT motherboard
Windows XP, Service Pack 2

Same issue as everyone else. Unplayable during peak PST hours.

1. Where you are located = Puget Sound area, WA state (Maple Valley)
2. ISP you are using = Comcast Cable
3. Server you're on = Dagoth and Set (both same issue)
4. What you were doing at the time of the spike = Killing stuff, walking, turning in quest, just logged in doing nothing... (doesn't appear to have a trigger)
5. Estimate of the time it happened at = every 30-40 minutes on non-peak time to as quick as every 2-3 mintues during peak time
6. How long does it last = 100% disconnect for me and have to restart AoC
7. Specs of your Computer: E6550, 4gb ram, 8800GTS, Vista 64bit, Wireless and/or wired connection to router, Dlink router

My roommate has the same specs of computer (bought at same time), and is having the same issue. Also note that when I am spiking my roommate is 100% of the time spiking at the same time. I'll say, "Crap here it goes again" and he's saying, "Yeah me too" every time.

This needs to be fixed. We both have almost quit multiple times now.

Welcome to the club new comers, This is the 10th day I've had this latency issue. Buckle up and enjoy the wait.

Last night was pretty good about 50% of my play time was lag free.

I couldn't play Age of Conan at all today, despite having great pings in every single other program that I ran. Every time I went into AoC, it would spike to 10,000.

The game is 100% unplayable for me now, unfortunately. I hope this problem is addressed soon.

Unlike most of you, I wasn't on the receiving end of this debacle until the patch on 5-27. I KNOW I need to upgrade my compy (I built this one in the winter of '03/'04), and the only upgrade I've done to it is the new vid card I bought just to be able to run the game at lowest settings (eVGA eGeforce 7600 GT). My problem was always the FPS, but that was due to my lack of RAM and VidCard, but my latency was always constant at ~117mS; however, after yesterday's patch, I've been getting these sudden (Oooh! Ash tree! *hit U* ... Ummmm. WTH?) latency spikes that peak at around 9860mS and last for about 5 seconds, then my latency goes back to 117. Running along, mace comes out, I get the mob targetted, hit my combo button, then *silence* *waiting* Dead, as lots of numbers go scrolling above my toon and the mobs and I notice during that time another latency spike. Anywhere from 2 minutes to upwards of 45 minutes between the spikes, and I have been disconnected a couple times due to them, but I never have a problem logging back in.

As I said, I never had this problem until the patch on 5-27, then again, my system itself wasn't optimized for it, either. I've defrag'd/cleaned up, ran virus/spyware utilities, shut down my wireless access on my router (someone was piggybacking >.<), and other software tweaks and optimizations to my rig. I was happy as hell when I logged in to see my tweaks were working (my FPS were a steady 24 during peak time, as opposed to the normal 6-8 I had earlier, so I was limited to off-peak hours play). Then the spikes started happening. Then I saw this thread, so I knew I wasn't alone.

Here's the info:
1. Seattle, Washington, USA
2. Comcast High Speed (cable)
3. Derketo
4. Harvesting, beginning a fight with mobs, just standing in one spot not moving. It is completely random.
5. I first logged in approx. 1500 PDT, and the first spike occured about 1520 PDT, then randomly (ranging from 2 to 45 mintues apart) until I finished playing for the night (final logout approx 2300 PDT)
6. Generally 5 seconds, unless it actually causes a fatal error and closes down AoC.
7. Running a D-Link DI-624 with the wireless disabled, the rest of the system is cut & pasted from DxDiag, at least the pertinent parts.

Yes, I know I need to build another computer, but that takes money I don't have right now, and honestly, I'm not going to build a new system for this game, the way it stands. I'll get another gig stick of DDR400 (highest supported for my mobo) to help, but this thread wasn't about framerates. It was about the 10K latency spikes. I can deal with playing off-peak to get better framerates, but with the latency spikes I've been getting, no dice.

P.S. And yes, I actually think 24 FPS with this rig, on this game, during peak hours IS something to be impressed with. ^.^

Throwing my name into the hat, if just to +1 the number of known users with this problem.

In open beta, I had no latency issues. However, for the first couple of days of early access, I experienced this. Then it went away until the 22nd or 23rd, at which point it reappeared and has continued up until now. I experience basically what everyone else here has; can not interact with the game and latency meter shows ~9800 ping.

Length of problem can range from very short to very long, to the point where I'll alt tab out and browse the web, checking back in occasionally. I don't think I've been disconnected due to it. Chat also seems to work fine, and if I move while lagged out, I seem to be where I move to when it dissipates with no problems (except for keeling over dead if I picked up aggro.)

Frequency also ranges from very often to infrequent. Sometimes occurring every 5 minutes, other times every 3 hours. I am starting to get very frustrated like many others here because I am not willing to join a group with this problem, especially since I play a guardian.

1. Morris County, NJ
2. Optimum Online
3. Wiccana
4. Most noticeable during combat, obviously, but also occurs when just walking around.
5. No set time, happens both in the evening and early morning.
6. Anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 minutes+.
7:
Win XP SP3
Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.0GHz
3GB effective ram
GeForce 8800 GTS 512
SB X-Fi Audio

Default High Latency Spikes

1. Where you are located: Singapore
2. ISP you are using: Starhub
3. Server you're on: Gwahlur
4. What you were doing at the time of the spike: Running, Hunting, Harvesting.
5. Estimate of the time it happened at: Since the 26th of May 2008.
6. How long does it last: For about 10 seconds with a 5 seconds interval. 40% of the time it will run a 10K latency spike for more than 10 seconds and auto-disconnect from game.
7. Specs of your Computer: As per signature.

8. Remarks: I understand that this is still a post-launch stability phase and Funcom is doing its best to react to all kinds of bugs and sorts, even though the latency issue should be fixed to make a better gaming experience.
