I'm currently level 26 and have not needed Mana, so far. I see that in the Feats there's Crystallized Ether but I'm loathed to put any points in such Feats, as it seams pointless - what is the Crystallized Ether effect, apart from Mana regeneration?

You need mana to keep Soul Barrier up, and you also need it for feats in the Desecration tree.

might help if you let everyone know what class you are concerned with. Certain classes at certain lv breaks will either use more or less and it also depends upon your spec.

actually its not just for the few defensive abilities but there are spells you can feat and covenants that use mana as offensive attacks.

Yup, dark hand, seal of chaos, blood pact, hex marked soul, dark burden. Pact of Malecador uses mana, but only 2 at a time so never worth toggling this.

You do not need to MANAGE your mana until you get soul barrier, at which point you need to toggle it if you get really low so that you can use your spells in a pinch.
