I think the feat trees of guard are alright except sacrifice and titan smash.
Reevamp should focus on the manever, stratagem and tactic.

Feats that have been broken/useless since launch and never taken as more than fillers:

- Intervene
- Sacrifice
- Titanic Smash
- Stand off
- Sweep the Field (Pre-1.5 it was almost viable before the Stagger nerf and when it gave +30%)
- Revenge
- Morale Boost
- Vengeance is Mine
- Hateful Vengeance
- Eye for an Eye

There are also other changes that need to be done like making CoH a 1-point feat (Considering it's worse than the DT/Conq equivalents and 4 more points), adding more feat options (The two Guard trees have the fewest feats of any tree, and class. Did I count? Yes) and creating feats that buff our strategems/tactics/maneuvers.

Revamp should consist of TANKING vs DPS. Right now other than asthetically there is no real reason to use SnS combos. They need to fix that first. Define the trees between Tanking and DPS, make thier specific roles clear. Then they can work on manuvers, strategem, and tactics.

Juggernaut = full plate tank(maybe adding feats that aguments the full plate pices u are wearing.)CCs/CC breaks/buffs/debuffs/low sustaned dps/medium burst dps;

tempest = heavy armor dpser(maybe adding feats aguments the heavy armor u are wearing)CC breaks/high sustained dps/ crazy mother ****ing stupid high burst dps.

IMO.

dont hate me for suggesting this....but what if they made the ability to wear plate armor require a feat in the tank tree? that way u wouldnt have full plate guards running around 1 shotting clothies. imo, if you are going to be able to deal out that kind of damage u should have to seriously sacrifice ur armor.

this would have to go for all soldier classes of course.

the only main problem i could see with this happening is the need for two completely different armor sets for each of the soldier classes
(one heavy and one plate) which i guess would not be cool....

If this was implemented then it would have to be placed in the Soldier tree otherwise Guardians would be affected by this where as Conq and DT would get a free usuage of Full Plate.

1. Bloody Vengeance is not capable of dealing 8-9k damage, common misconception.

2. Luckily a system like this already exists. It's called Frenzy Stance. Not as potent as pre-1.5, but will still hit your mitigation pretty hard, especially magical mitigation.

At 80, BV is the only real damage dealer for the Guardian, it can maybe take 25% - 50% of a cloth wearers health, and that's AFTER your team mates have taken a massive beating to get your Vengeance counter up, which the BV skill relies on.

As it stands I think it serves the purpose well, Distraction, everyone ignores the Guardian at first and start whacking at your healers and other squishies. After a while the Vengeance counter is filled up and that's when the Guardians role in the group comes into play, he woops out his polearm and scares the living jebus out of the other team, there by forcing them to refocus their attacks at the guardian while the healers can get back to work and the squshies can take out the other team.

A Guardian alone CANNOT run around 1 shotting same level clothies, they'd be lucky enough to take off 25% health before the clothies has got the guardian down to 10%.

Note: to even do a decent amount of damage, the Guardian has to be in Frenzy stance and all offensive buffs up. I check by damage mitigation while doing this and I had about 10%. So a Guardian isn't hard to take down in that situation. That's in comparison to when a shield is equipped, all defensive buffs and stances are on and the mitigation is about 55%+

Returning player from '08. I had one character, a level 66 SnS Guardian that I loved to play, but simply ran out of content, then the server just went deserted.

I'm back to re-look at AoC and after reading the posts about a revamp have chosen not to play the Guardian until then as I have a respec currently.

I'm a PvE player.

I've been leveling a DT to play some of the new content, but I just don't get the joy out of it I remember from the Guardian.

Is SnS truly a non starter for PvE these days as a pure mitigation tank?

As a side note, please fresh an old man's memory... When I run several combos in order I'll get a sword that appears over the mob/s that will shatter. I remember it meaning something, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is.

I still know of SnS guards. If you find it fun go for it and use SnS. It really comes down to what you spec, as long as YOU find it fun who cares? Since you play on a pve server it doesn't really matter. A good sns guard can still hold agro fine. And I think that may be the particle effect for guard destroyer maybe? I can't remember it' been a long time.
