Some of my guildies are saying that turning off sound completely helps to slow the leak, but they say its more like having a stomach wound instead of an arterial wound. You're gonna die eventually, but you get to suffer a little bit before you do.

HOW I TEMPORARILY "FIXED" THIS PROBLEM WHILE PLAYING WITH 3.0

Here was my problem. After visiting a few zones, my game became a complete stutter in populated areas. We speak 1-2 fps, with severe HD scratching. This did NOT happen until I left Tortage. Probably because I had only visited ONE zone so far...Disabling shader 3.0 temporarily fixed the problem, but the game looked very bland...

So today, I erased the famous "cache" files (*see below). I could play with high settings, with little or no stuttering in cities, even with shader 3.0.
Of interesting note, the stuttering came back after I ported into a couple of different zones. Logging out and in did not fix it BUT, erasing the cache files (again) did.

So from now on, I will erase the shader cache files everytime I log in. This will allow me to play until I visit 2-3 different zones, at which point, I think, those files become corrupted and inefficient.

Hope this helps you play.

EDIT the "cache" files are the 2 or 3 files that start with "shader" in their name. Located inside the Age of Conan file folder. Easy to find.

2nd EDIT : this seemed to work this morning only. Probably more due to less players around. Tonight, still cant play in cities with shader 3.0 because of massive stuttering.

I do the same thing.

1) I ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode twice to remove all video drivers
2) Reinstalled Catalyst 8.5 for my Radeon 3870 video card
3) Deleted the two shader cache files in Funcom directory

Pre-changes I was getting 14-20fps in Tesso city
Post-changes I immediately got 40-50fps in Tesso city

I changed some of the graphical settings at that point and immediately it went back to 14-20fps. If I delete the shader cache files the game will run with very high fps until I assume I have "seen" too much in-game.

Checking it out now. seeing if it elevates issue.

Minor improvment, not even, I was able to move threw half a zone before the textures blewup again, but I had the gameon some high setings.
