Geez, that's way too hot. Merely slapping a fan on it probably isn't enough because of how hot the 8800s get. You should probably get a PCI slot blower so you can exhaust the hot air out of the case. That's what the stock fans do (exhaust heat out case).

actually. I just took the fan mounted on my thermalright cpu heatsink and pointed it to blow on my 8800 GT. Problem solved. Running between 77-80C underload. Been playing for a few mins now and its steady. Lets see how it goes.

Edit: I'm also using a Antec P182 so airflow is not an issue really. I just never had an overheating problem before. But, it's getting hot now and humid so it's making a difference on the temperature inside my case. Gotta get my a/c back in here fix that hehe.

I spoke too soon... Although! I did get to play extremely longer without any graphical errors, glitches, stutters, hitching all that stuff. The only thing that was wrong this time is it just locked up on me when trying to load into a new zone. This is with using 2.0 shaders. I have Task Manager runnning and looked at my Commit Charge peak and it exceeded my available ram.

I think the game istelf has a bad memory leak and the screwy shader programs probably just add to the mess with shader model 3.0 speeding it up. I am just happy I get to play longer without any graphical problems before it peter's out, locks up and I have to restart. Maybe the game dosn't have a memory leak and they underestimated the system requirements on this beautiful game. I mean 2 gigs of ram with two video cards each having 512mb should be plenty but in reality it probably isn't.

I would love for someone that has a similar setup to mine, AMD Athlon 64 6400+, two 9800 gtx's in SLI, with 4 gigs of ram (compared to mine at 2 gigs) running shader model 2.0 with Task Manager in the background to see if you ever hit the wall and hard lock. If you do then the game definitely has a memory problem. Also heat isn't an issue with me since I have an Antec900 case with 2 more 120mm fans added to the front.

I am having the same problem.

I have mid-low range specs, esp my RAM. Changing that today; have 2x2gig sticks coming now. The first things that happen are that I cannot keep the game using Shader 2.0. It will revert to 3.0 either on area changes or game restarts, or just randomly. The second thing is the "water reflection" amount. I like this set to reflect nothing, but often when my game is chunking too badly i check it and its set to reflect all. It seems to be the same sort of thing as the Shader setting; it is just randomly switching back to some default.

Some of you may not have seen the water reflection option flicking back, you have to scroll right down the page to see this.

I haven't tried setting my prefs file to read only; i might try this tonight.

Heat. Oh man the heat. I checked out my case the other day and touched the heatsink on my chipset. Man it was hot! Too hot IMO. So now i've got a fan pumping away directly at my chipsets side. But no chipset should get that hot.

From intuit I'd say there is memory leak rendering problems going on; or it's performing way too many RAM allocations than is necessary. It seems to buffer up a whole series of render commands, then dump them all and reset the shader settings. But I dont really know, its not my area.

I have faith it will be fixed soon. Love the combat system funcom!

Guess this answers my question....

Not going to bother linking the page that is found here on the forums but that confirms what I have been thinking it is.

suggestions like these are ignorant. don't post if you don't know the issue. this is a major issue that involves the way the game - direct x - and windows (especially vista) interact. these issues have actually existed before this game but are becoming extremely common in this game.

Would be nice if there was a utility that would run in the background but be displayed on your screen while in game that shows the ammount of memory you have and how much is being ate all to hell. That way you could glance at it and "oh almost peaked...better restart the game!". That is until the game gets fixed.

Yeah reinstalling Windows isn't the problem for those of you thinking of taking drastic measures like this. I have XP and am thinking of picking up one more gig of ram anways or better yet future proof myself, buy Vista to be used at a later date and buy 2 gigs of ram to run a total of 4. Knowing my luck when and if I ever get around to doing that games will require a "minimum" of 4 gigs to play =).
