Default Simple Rules to follow when playing a Pet Spec Necro

When you learn how to play more effectively any necro spec can be good.

Pet spec is a fine spec for pvp, but you have to learn certain things.
Currently I'm shatter/lich for Tier 2 raiding.

Rules for pet spec:
(Feel free to add some, if i missed any)

1. Terrain - Utilize this as best you can. Most classes can't charge you when you're on a weird shaped rock, so use that to your advantage.

2. LoS - When fighting casters as a pet spec use line of sight to your advantage so their casts don't hit you but your pets are constantly on them.

3. Effective Crowd control - Ice shackle won't break on damage, but freeze does, so if you freeze someone to CC them make sure your pets dont attack or the stun will break. If someone is running normal speed to you to use a combo, time your fear appropriately so that your fear goes off right when they're in range (takes some practice).

4. Kiting - Learn it. Love it. Making melee use stamina (void helps) will assure you're not going to get 1 shot (2-3 shot instead :P)

5. DoTs are your friend - Throwing dots on your opponent while you're kiting will help the "killing process."

6. Play "chicken" - Charge your opponent, sidestep and make it so they have to flip 180 degrees to keep attacking you, also gives you a little running room

If you want to add more, Use a number in front so I know ur not just commenting, thanks

I've had very little if any problms pvping, I get one shot sometimes but usually its a fight I didn't see coming (like logging out etc).

I would add "playing chicken" as a strat.

You can throw melee for a loop if you sprint at them then cut football style to one side. If they don't understand the strat they'll end up running by or even better use a cooldown.

Worst case scenario.. they see this coming and you have to use a fear.

I also carry a full stock of potions.

I find that a good combo of pets work very well a combo like 2x cor 2x mut 4x blight as they compliment each other with the effects they bring. Also utilizing AOE spells for the "rabbit" (running all over the place) fighters.

don't be afraid to tap your minions life they are expendable, you are not.

if they try and run shackle and chase. if they get tired your minions wont.

I think Void was nerfed sometime ago so I am not certain how effective it is now.

I love reanimation specced pvp. I played re-animation all the way up to 70, and it was a blast. Lots of different tools available to the necro, it's great fun etc etc. I went nightfall for the last 10 lvls due to the broken pet AI/LoS issues only.

I want to spec back to pets for pvp when they finally fix them, but 1 thing is stopping me.

Mage Shields.

As a reanimation necro, the only way i will ever kill someone with a mage shield seems to be if they literally run out of potions in their inventory. I have like 20-50 dps. The great number of small hits seems to allow the mage shield to absorb it's absolute maximum damage every 25seconds (or more often if feated), and nerfs my pet dps down to nothing. Worse, in GvG, if even one member of an opposing party is a mage, I suddenly begin hoping my pets will lag the enemy to death because that's the only beneficial thing I can do for my team.

What am I doing wrong? Is it me? Is it just an inherent weakness of the spec? I've read that absorb shields are supposed to absorb only up to 1/2 of the incoming damage of any given attack, but at least vs npcs (read PETS) this is just not the case.

I think if I had to just live with always dying to other mages that would be fine, given high levels of fun/success vs other classes and low levels of mages in the player population overall. But always being useless in any GvG pvp where the enemy has even 1 mage has kept me nightfall.

Unfortunately, I'd say the problem is the necro class itself. It just isn't that great for PVP. The damage is nominal, and our slow, small hits aren't enough in a game where at least half of the classes have the capacity to 1-hit us (or 2/3-hit, which is still a lot)

Although being insta-fatalitied or otherwise brought to an abrupt violent end isn't always avoidable, I find that a reanimation necro's dps is quite good. Other forum topics have included applicable dps parsing, but my point is that vs non-mage classes I think we do fine damage wise. It's just incredibly strange and frustrating that 1 ability can so totally shut you down.

Odd thing been happening to me lately. I'm a reanimation heavy hybrid spec. I typically run with 6 life-stealers and 2 blighted ones. I will be traveling or in a fight and some opportunist will attack me, I'll pot or siphon, start to kite and throw a few dots or cc them. Lately I have had several would be attackers just stop and or run away.

My only thought is that I wasn't the easy target they expected or they just don't want to take the time to kill me. It's still weird.

I'd like to toss in, "Don't just flat out run away from Melee classes. They have a charge that will get you killed."
