The quest in Tortage that starts from...Claudio (or whatever his name is, that Zingaran slave who sits outside of the entrance to the Underhalls in the Tortage harbor) has you go into the Underhalls and talk to his first mate who tells you that he has died thousands of deaths but he always comes back because he was marked. I'm pretty sure it's also talked about in one of the early destiny quests.

The question was how to RP death and not how to RP resurrection.

The answer is: You can't RP death in any game that has a means of continuing a character after defeat unless everyone agrees to permadeath (and even then, it's chock-full of huge problems).

As stated, it is way after. The mention above by someone else however does imply that it is the same early on.

Later, when you are doing one of your destiny quest in your home city it is a prelude to seeing the "big man" himself, i.e. Conan. Basically, he will not see you with the mark on.

My Guard is 75, I think it was at 60 though if that helps.

Left for dead on the battlefield (or location of mugging or whatever) seems the easiest way to go to me. I try to r/p what fits with the given environment, in this case R. E. Howard's "Conan", where coming back from the dead repeatedly just does not fit. An old pen & paper rpg, "Chivalry & Sorcery" recommended that most times player characters ran out of hit points that instead of having them die the Gamemaster should consider letting them wake up later, left for dead to carry on the fight another day.

It might be nice if there were a mechanism to prevent pvp'd characters from just running back to fight whoever just defeated them right away, kind of foils the purpose and does interfere with r/p.

I think it would be interesting for a death mechanic involving server migration. Just as we have instanced zones, each server would operate under a few instances that shared guilds and player accounts, and when defeated, you were shuffled to the next server. Eventually you might loop back to your original one, but by then your death is either forgotten, the person who dealt it on another server instance, or your critical wounds finally mended. The overall effect being that you get to enjoy playing that character, but your killer can live in a virtual world where you are gone for at least a few days. Guilds would complicate this, of course. I really don't know how one could account for guild communication and events with this.

Actually it does state somewhere I believe in your 50 or 60 destiny, (the one where you remove the mark). During a cutscene it states that the Mark of Acheron keeps you immortal, and that removing it would make you vulnerable, but then you get the power of the Atlantean god(I think) which keeps you immortal. If you get a new rez pad you'll see the Mark of Acheron appear at your feet.(In Tortage at least haven't paid attention out of that) Rez pad, Mark of Acheron, linked obviously.

And you get killed by a moments lag. Great...

Accidents happen, even with a good pc you can have lag, or powerfailure, or something else where a tiny badger ends up smacking your frozen char for 10 minutes and then finally kills you.
