I have a 78 Ranger, but I really do not want to play the OP class. My Guardian is 42 and I am finding it harder to level than I remember it being back in 2008.

I have read up ALOT on feats and specced him to have what I have seen are the best combo for Defense and a bit of DPS feats.

Currently, I am leveling in the Field of the Dead and things just seem slow. When fighting one on one, I do fine, even if the kill pace is slow. However, when I get 2 or 3 enemies, it is a race against the clock in order to survive.

I have tried using both SnS and Polearm and find that the SnS kills so slow that the extra defense you do get is offset by how much long it takes to kill things, therefore the Polearm seems more efficient for solo leveling?

I would appreciate any help, advice, info. or encouragement anyone could give me to keep plucking away as I am starting to find things not as fun as I was hoping DUE MAINLY to not being able to get any groups and all but the easiest quests being the only way to level.

I am on the pvp rp server btw, cimmeria? My Guards name is Stonewahl if there is some kind of armory you can look at to see my feats etc.

Id say go temp/general and try and always get the best gear at ur level so you can handle taking on mobs, if you cant find groups do villas yeah they are boring but good exp.

Spec out toughness, invulns in the general tree first,then go for dps, stance dance when you can and you should be fine hope this helps good luck.

It's kind of painfull at lower levels. Don't forget you can double tap forward then hit the mob to stun them, it's handy with a guard since you don't have all the CCs that other classes do and DPS isn't very impressive, even with the polearm. Once you clear 60 it gets a lot better as you'll be well into the tempest tree so your DPS will be a lot better.

If you really want to go S&B because you're a glutton for punishment the trick is to pull multiple mobs and stack your counterstrikes on them (the different level combos don't share cooldowns and the retributive damage stacks among them all). With S&B you can kill 4-5 mobs in about the same time it takes to kill one

Personally, I think the best way to level a guard now is with offline levels. I still get tons of use out of my guard at 80 so if that's your hope you're in luck.

So, I have two level 80 guards, one was leveled sword and board and the other polearm. A word of advice....go polearm, and learn how to stance dance. Life will be alot easier if you learn this early on. Also, guardian is a group based class.....if you can find a buddy to level with in your guild that is around the same level, do it. Another big thing to look for is when people are doing low level group things. The gear and xp both playing and leveling up will make you a better player. Keep a few gold handy if you have it for when you need new gear, as better gear becomes availiable at 50, 60, 70, 75, and finally 80 from the level your starting at.

Well, last night I to my now 43 Guardian to the trader and was amazed that for about 5g I got almost a full set of upgraded weapons and armor. Let me tell you it made a huge difference. Before I was struggling to kill 2 mobs at once. Now I can get 4 mobs on me and down them without breaking a sweat.

Another thing I discovered while being ganked randomly last night was that while a level 80 and kill me deader than a door nail, it actually took them longer than I thought it would.

I was also attacked by a 48 Barbarian, 5 levels higher than I am and after almost 5 minutes he gave up and ran off. Not that I could kill him, but he couldn't seem to kill me either, had a good chuckle at that.

If anyone happens to know of a decent guild on Cimmeria that would welcome an up and coming Guardian, please let me know!
